Makezine gets Stitchin'
The Happy Hooker does Makezine and the Fat Bottom Bag gets a shout out. Whoo hoo!

I know that Shannon of Anezka Handmade will be at the Maker Faire, in April, representin' the Knitted Boombox Bag and her Knitgrrl Empire. I thought I heard that Debbie Stoller might be there as well. My mom and Scott will be heading down there, so I may send my copy of The Happy Hooker with them to get signed.

Damn this knit and crochet trend ain't dying off any time soon, is it?

My mom was looking through my copy of The Happy Hooker yesterday and the fat bottom bag was her favorite item in the book :)

Speaking of Debbie Stoller, one thing that sort of annoyed me about the book is that on the cover, it says in big letters Debbie Stoller. It doesn't say "edited by" Debbie Stoller. I mean, really, she's the editor of the book, not the author. She's wearing the crocheted cowboy hat on the cover but it's not her pattern even though the cover pretty much implies that it's her pattern. That kind of annoyed me. And also Bust magazine is pretty lame these days.

But anyways, now I'm off to order yarn for the Seija Set...

Yay for mom. Boo that there is an one-stitch (One freaking stitch) error in the first line. I must remember to post that somewhere.

Debbie really could've had more projects on the front cover.

awesome! Congrats. :) That really is a dear darling bag.

I still haven't seen the book yet (Debbie probably sent it to my home address, and I'm at school still), so I haven't decided if I still hate my pattern or not. haha.

Seems like a lot of people love your fat bottomed bag. You rock. :-)

..."empire." Yeah...works for me! Didn't know about Stoller, though. Guess I'll have to get my copy signed, now that I'm aspiring to be bistitchual.

(Speaking of -- funny you used that term in your journal -- I'm bringing shirts to the show that say "I'm Bistitchual" with a hook and a needle on them. I started saying that last year at our knitting group and the term stuck, so now it's been there, done that -- about to sell the t-shirt! I'll have to save you one, be sure to tell me what size!) :)

By the way -- I disagree with amandasan's comment about Stoller above. Here's why: by her measurement, I'm not an author either. I wrote all the text in the Knitgrrl books. I did 75% of the photography. I only did a few of the patterns. Why? Because I was busy doing everything else!

(And because the publisher wanted the book in a matter of months -- I kid you not).

If you don't like Stoller, fine, but don't downplay the amount of work that goes into a book of that size. Also, she has next to no input re: what goes on the cover, etc. That's all publisher territory...specifically, the sales and marketing department. Her other books sold 250,000+ copies? Yeah, her name's going on the cover. I'm surprised it's not in blinking lights!

(Gosh, that little digression got long, sorry about that! It's just a pet peeve of mine. Authorly crankiness).

Love the "I'm Bistitchual" shirts idea!

Speaking of bistitchual, have you seen Knitters Lib, by Lena Maikon? The patterns are cute, but the tone of the whole book is great. I really like how the author includes knit, crochet, and even a little leather work into the patterns.

We're starting to see a trend where the lines are blurred. The Sharks and the Jets are finally playing together.

I completely see where you are coming from on the author standpoint. I agree that you, Kim, and Debbie are all authors. I think Debbie did a great job of giving credit/bylines/bio's where they were due. We were allowed to write our own bio and include any business affiliation we wanted to. You do a fantastic job of promoting your contributors as well.

Regarding input on cover design. I did a book project recently (in 6 weeks!). Believe me, I know that the finished product is at the whim of the publisher. Do you know what will scare me the most? The illustrations. The illustrator is not a crocheter and I never got to proof the illustrations. From my research, many crochet books have incorrect illustrations and it drives me nuts. I have no control over it, yet my name is on the cover. I will be judged on all aspects of the finished product and I'm not even getting any royalties. That's just part of it.

I really hope we see much more of Jonathan's work in the future because it's people like him that could rebrand sustainable fashion as something luxurious and desirable.

Ack! you'll have to tell me all the gory details... and yeah, I know that feeling of helplessness, too. Sucks to not have total control over what your name goes on, doesn't it? If I'd had my druthers, Knitgrrl and Knitgrrl 2 would've been published as ONE big, bad book with 30+ patterns instead of 2 books...one with 15 patterns, one with 16. The instructional photos are pretty much repeated, with some new step by steps, in book 2. Although all the features and stuff are new, that kind of thing annoys me. (Though, really, getting 16 new patterns for $9.95 is not a bad deal, and you don't have to own both books in order for them to make sense). Damned if you do, damned if......

300 is a great movie full of visual effects and graphics which made it different and much better.
Acting was great, director did a wonderful job and chose great actors, full of action, and it is based on a true story.
